Pisco Sour

Where do you find inspiration? Up in the sky? Down by your feet? On Pinterest? In a strange city, at a strange coffee bar? Start staring at a man that reminds you of Clark Kent, remembering how the feel of a newspaper is both romantic and informative?

I wanted to share some inspiration with you this morning.  It’s Tuesday. We need it… just like we need sunshine during these Easter holidays, creamy coffee, and some white wine or a Pisco Sour…or maybe that’s just me. Try the one they make at El Negocito in the city of Gent, Belgium. And order some Chilean food along.

Wiki-Love: A Pisco Sour is a cocktail typical of western South American cuisine. The drink’s name is a mixture of the Quechua word Pisco (English:Bird) and the term Sour (in reference to the mixed drink family of the same name). The Peruvian Pisco Sour requires the use of PeruvianPisco as the base liquor and the addition of lime (or lemon) juice, syrup, ice, egg white, and Angostura bitters. The Chilean version is similar, but uses Chilean Pisco, sugar instead of syrup, and excludes the bitter.

Both Chile and Peru claim ownership of the Pisco Sour and denominate it their national drink. Peru considers that both Pisco and the Pisco Sour should be considered exclusively Peruvian. However, Chile contests this claim and, in turn, also claims ownership over both alcoholic beverages. Partially as a result of this controversy, the Pisco Sour holds international attention as a topic of popular culture.

Love and happiness

Pastinaca sativa

‘Big Picture’ life thoughts:

Be kind. Be kinder than you think yourself possible. Be passionate. Live fully and unapologetically. Show gratitude.  Express joy.  Feel pain.  Empathize… with eye contact. Slow down, breathe deeply. Love hard… always (always). Gather and share. Show praise. Celebrate big and small. Be brave.

‘Small Picture’ thoughts:

Where are my car keys? Oh no, did I forget my refilled bottle of mineral water again next to the sink this morning? Do I really need a set of matching table plates? No! These second hands are far more authentic. Wait… did I pay that bill? Don’t forget to feed the cat when you come home. Don’t forget to write that email. Don’t forget to write that other email, and study, and send that picture, and write up this or that. Don’t forget to try and write it all down on that long list of other things you’re trying not to forget. Don’t forget to sleep some. Wait… slow down. Breath. Try to think more ‘big picture’ life thoughts. Don’t lose sight of the forest for the trees.

‘Big picture and Small picture’ thought:

How many more things can I make with parsnip, the forgotten vegetable… like, now! I’m gonna try it out.

Wikilove: The parsnip (Pastinaca sativa) is a root vegetable related to the carrot. Parsnips resemble carrots, but are paler in colour than most carrots, and have a sweeter taste, especially when cooked. The buttery, slightly spicy, sweet flavor of cooked mature parsnips (often picked after the first frost) is reminiscent of butterscotchhoney, and subtle cardamom.

Sunday panics

The Sunday Panics.

Do you get the Sunday Panics from time to time?  Let me describe the symptoms and you can tell me whether or not I’m a weird person, or if you relate.  The Sunday Panics are most often characterized by:  afternoon over-caffeination, tremendous amounts of NOT quality time spent on Facebook, an appartment full of empty glasses, dots of dirt, a lengthy weekly to-do list, a fair amount of brain worry, possible nail biting, an intense desire for take-out Italian food, and low motivation coupled with nagging laziness guilt. (That last one is so happening right now)

Do you ever get the Sunday Panics?

Yes, well…. me neither. Of course not.

…except I totally do. (what did you expect?)

You know, I’ve developed a cure for the Sunday Panics.

Movement! Up. Up.  Up!  There you go! To the coolest place in your house. That’s the kitchen. Of course it is. (if you are following this blog on a regular basis, you already knew that one) Go and make a super easy cake. Bananacake for instance!  Definitely do the dishes afterwards.  Make the to-do list for the upcoming week, then set it aside to rest until Monday morning.  Write some greeting cards for friends. (I adore receiving postcards from time to time) Call your mama.  Enjoy eating a slice of cake whilst reading ‘De Standaard Magazine’.  When all else fails… take  a hot shower and enjoy an early bedtime.
